Design Teaching Assistant Position

Are you a self-motivated and organized individual who enjoys teaching about design? We are seeking design teaching assistants with a background in architecture, urban design, or landscape architecture to help guide our Summer Exploratory Experience in Design (SEED) internship. The program introduces youth to the field of design through a 6-week collaborative group project. Each week our youth design teams meet with experts in the design field to get feedback on their projects and visit interesting sites and organizations around the city. Teaching assistants play a crucial role in managing their teams and helping them comprehend the design concepts they are learning from experts each week while assisting them in the development of their design.

This position with the Sasaki Foundation is expected to run between June 22, 2026 and August 14, 2026. The rate is $18.25-$20.00/hour. This is an in-person position with a home base at 110 Chauncy Street in Boston.

The tasks we foresee you working on include:

Administrative:

- Assisting in the completion of timesheets.
- Managing files and pictures in Google Drive.
- Taking pictures of the SEED internship experience.
- Ensuring deliverables are being completed.
- Communicating schedule of activities to interns and project advisors a timely manner.
- Assist Program Manager in site visit coordination and facilitation.

Educational:

- Assisting the design team in project management.
- Assisting interns in understanding design concepts and planning drawing activities.
- Assisting interns with programs and software related to their projects.
- Sharing their educational pathway.
- Participating and engaging interns in field trips, site visits, and sketching activities.
- Providing project and professional development feedback to interns.

Requirements:

- First year in college (SEED/DESI alumni) OR second / third year in college OR second / third year post high school
- Educational background in design, architecture, urban planning, or landscape architecture
- Experience leading a team through a design process (can be in school)
- Passionate about teaching designExcited to get more experience designing real-word projects
- Excited to get more experience designing real-word projects
- Experience working with youth a plus
- Must be a resident of Boston or Metro North area (Cambridge, Somerville, Malden, Everett, Revere, Woburn)
- Under 24 due to funding requirements

Requirements:

The assistantship will take place in person at Sasaki's office at 110 Chauncy Street in downtown Boston. This year SEED has two tracks. SEED 1.0 is for students with no experience in design who are wanting to explore the fields of architecture, planning and urban design, and landscape architecture. SEED 2.0 is for students who have more experience or have gone through SEED or DESI already. Please be sure to specify which level you are applying for. The experience will consist of hands-on design learning, field trips to local design projects, and presenting to mentors.

Hours: 30 hrs per week
