Join us for the fifth lecture in our Offshore Talks series with
Katharina Pistor, who will present her book "
The Law of Capitalism and How to Transform It".
The book explores a fundamental yet often overlooked dimension of capitalism: its legal foundations. While capitalism is commonly understood as an economic system, Katharina Pistor demonstrates how it is, in fact, deeply rooted in law, which enables ordinary assets, promises, and even ideas to be transformed into capital. The book examines how legal frameworks not only support the accumulation of wealth but also allow powerful actors to circumvent the social and political constraints imposed on markets.
By analysing the relationship between law, power, and economic structures, Pistor argues that contemporary capitalism is ultimately unsustainable and calls for a profound transformation of legal and economic systems in order to build a more equitable society.
