Brewery Facility Manager @ Essex, MA

Role Description:

As a Facility Manager at GALY, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations, safety, and performance of our laboratory and production facilities, including bioreactor and brewery systems. You will play a critical role in ensuring that infrastructure, equipment, and processes operate efficiently, safely, and in alignment with company goals.

In this role, you will manage facility operations end-to-end, from maintenance and cleanliness to process optimization and system oversight, while supporting the scale-up of our core technologies. You will collaborate closely with R&D, operations, and leadership teams to implement improvements, maintain compliance, and enable seamless execution of high-impact projects.

This position is ideal for a hands-on leader with strong operational and technical experience who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving startup environment.

Responsibilities:

Oversee daily facility operations, ensuring laboratories and production spaces are clean, organized, and fully operational.

Manage and monitor bioreactor and brewery systems, ensuring performance, reliability, and adherence to operational standards.

Lead facility-related process improvements, identifying opportunities to optimize workflows, equipment usage, and system efficiency.

Coordinate maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of equipment, working with internal teams and external vendors as needed.

Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for facility operations and equipment management.

Ensure compliance with safety regulations, GMP guidelines (as applicable), and internal quality standards.

Oversee waste management, safety systems, and proper use of PPE across all facility areas.

Support scaling efforts by ensuring facility readiness for increased production and operational complexity.

Track facility performance metrics and provide regular updates to leadership on operational status and improvements.

Lead and mentor junior staff or operators, providing guidance on best practices, safety, and equipment handling.

Coordinate with external vendors and suppliers for equipment, maintenance services, and facility upgrades.

Support risk identification and mitigation across facility operations to ensure business continuity.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).

4–8 years of experience in facility operations, manufacturing, lab operations, or a related environment.

Experience working with bioreactors, fermentation systems, or similar process equipment is strongly preferred.

Familiarity with GMP, safety standards, and regulated environments is a plus.

Experience managing vendors, equipment maintenance, and facility systems.

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills in fast-paced environments.

Drives continuous improvement initiatives across facility operations.

Aligns operational improvements with broader company goals and growth plans.
