Urban Coincidence is a Glasgow-wide photography poster campaign featuring images that capture something uncanny, out of place, humorous, serendipitous, cheeky or thought-provoking within the everyday. By replacing typical advertisements, this intervention overwrites aspirational consumer messaging with a portrayal of life as it is. For this open call, we seek images that reveal something unique amid regular routine, evidence the beauty and burden of getting by, evoke meaningfulness amid mundanity, and document remnants  of liveliness and its aftermath.

Photos need not be formal or “professional” and can be taken on any type of camera – phone, film, digital, or other. Up to 20 images will be selected, printed, and displayed in place of advertising posters over a period of 2 weeks, at no charge to participants. Posters will feature a discreet QR code linking to a digital map that reveals all locations hidden in plain sight across the city – disrupting the inundation of commercial advertisements and offering unexpected moments of reflection in their place.

Now in its second iteration, the first round of Urban Coincidence can be seen here.

Submit up to 3 photos, each with a brief written description, location, and story behind its capture to be used as an accessible transcription of the visual image. For entry purposes a standard, decent quality image size and resolution is perfectly fine. Following selection, we will request high resolution files for final printing and can help support formatting to print-ready specifications as needed.
