What does Birmingham sound like?

Between September and November 2026, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group is inviting people across Birmingham to listen differently to the city around them.

Record a sound that interests you, means something to you, or captures something about Birmingham as you experience it. It could be the sound of your street, a market, birds in a park, machinery at work, a bus journey, football supporters, rain, voices, water, or something we haven't imagined.

Your recording will become part of a growing collection of Birmingham sounds and may help composer Sara Caneva create Wayfinding B, a new work for Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, to be performed in September 2027.

You don't need specialist equipment. Your phone is enough.
