I regularly find myself running from one emergency to the next.
I often have to 'push down' how I am feeling in order to be professional.
I often have to 'push through' after a stressful or upsetting event at work.
I use coffee to see me through the day.
I use alcohol at night to switch off.
I can fall into compassion fatigue.
I am often exhausted and have no energy left after a shift.
I want to be alone/away from people after work.
I often wonder if I am happy in my job.
None of these apply to me
Do you do anything for your own wellbeing to bring you back into balance in between consultations?
*
A
Yes, I have some wellbeing tools and I use them regularly.
B
Sometimes I do something minor like take some deep breaths before the next client.
C
No, and I feel like I would benefit from some quick-fire tools to reset myself.
D
No, and I don't think I need to.
How would you rate the emotional health support within your practice?
*
A
I feel totally supported. My practice are fully aware of daily stressors and have provided us all with the tools required to balance stress responses.
B
I feel somewhat supported, there is facility for if you are having a mental health crisis but nothing in place as a preventative.
C
There is a nominated person to go to if anyone needs support, but I don't feel comfortable going to them.
D
I feel this is an area that our practice could improve upon.
E
I feel completely at a loss and I feel strongly that there should be more support in place.
Would you benefit from a short course on managing your stress responses? The course would be designed by a practicing vet, alongside a stress practitioner and a clinical psychotherapist.
*
Yes, this sounds like something I feel would be beneficial
Maybe, although I am not a fan of these courses generally
Maybe, but I'm not sure our practice would be interested
No, I wouldn't
If you answered yes to the previous question, how would you prefer to access tools (please tick all that apply)
I would prefer an in-person course with my colleagues present.
I would prefer on online course that I can access in my own time.
I would prefer an app with the tools so I can access them when I need them.
I would like all of the above.
