1. Support Encumbered Lands Proviso - SB 5949

Position: OTHER

Conserve hundreds of acres of structurally complex, carbon-dense forest by purchasing replacement forest land in Wahkiakum County that will be managed for sustainable timber harvest, carbon sequestration, wildlife habitat, and climate resilience.

📩 Please write an email to these 5 WA state senators by the deadline. Ask them to concur with the Encumbered Lands proviso in the House Supplemental Budget and prioritize the conservation of mature forests during this session.

2. Improve rail allocation in conference committee - HB 2134

Position: OTHER
Deadline: Thursday 3/7 by 11:00 PM
The differences in the House and Senate versions of the Transportation Budget need to be resolved. We need to ask legislators to zero out money for Ultra High Speed Rail and allocate $25 million for Amtrak Cascades matching funds which is a more effective use of funds.

📃 Please send a comment to your two Representatives and choose Neutral as your position before the deadline. Ask them not to concur with the Senate-passed version of the Transportation Budget but in conference committee, to zero out money for Ultra High Speed Rail and allocate $25 million for Amtrak matching funds.

If you have time, please extend a few thank yous to our hardworking legislators. Let’s encourage them to continue fighting for a cleaner, more just state!

4. Improving Washington’s Solid Waste Impacts (the ReWrap Act) - HB 2049

The ReWrap Act sadly failed to pass the legislature this session. We hope it will return next year.
Among other things, the bill would modernize our recycling system, mandate certain post-consumer recycled content, make producers of certain products responsible for their whole lifecycle and incentivize them to reduce packaging and make it more sustainable.

📩 Please write an email to Representative Liz Berry thanking her for her support. And don’t forget to tell her if you’re a constituent!

5. Fair Access to Community Solar - HB 2253/SB 6113

Solar energy is currently the cheapest source of energy. These companion bills would extend Washington’s community solar programs so that more customers, including low-income customers, can pay lower energy costs. This would have the added benefit of reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.
These bills died early in the session.

📩 Please write an email to the sponsors of these companion bills thanking them for their sponsorship and urging them to reintroduce the bills next year. And don’t forget to tell them if you’re a constituent!

6. Electric School Buses - HB 1368

HB 1368 creates a grant program to transition our state's K-12 bus fleet from diesel to electric while establishing the necessary charging infrastructure.
Great news! Our advocacy and that of many others was successful - this bill passed the Senate before the cutoff on March 1st. Now, the bill needs the House to concur with the Senate changes.

📩 Please write an email to the prime sponsor of this bill, Representative Tana Senn, thanking her for her support. And don’t forget to tell her if you’re a constituent!
