Software Engineer

Wink, Inc. is a data intelligence leader in the life and annuity insurance industry. We are committed to modernizing our applications and providing our customers with efficient, data-driven insights.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Software Engineer to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing software applications and components, as well as maintaining existing software systems. This position will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer.
IMPORTANT NOTE:  This is a full-time W-2 position open only to candidates residing in the United States. Proof of U.S. residency is required (U.S. Work Permit, Green Card, or U.S. Passport). Although the role is primarily remote, the final interview will be conducted on-site in Des Moines, IA to meet with the team before a hiring decision is made.

Essential Responsibilities and Functions

• Utilize established development tools, guidelines, and conventions to design, develop, and maintain software applications and components.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and design and implement software solutions that meet those needs.
• Conduct code reviews, debug software defects, and continuously improve software quality and performance.
• Create technical specifications, test plans, and other technical documentation.
• Investigate and develop skills in new technologies to continuously improve software development processes.
• Collaborate with a team of software developers to ensure project success and career growth.

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

• Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field experience.
• 3+ years of experience in software development and development practices.
• Strong programming skills in Java, VB.NET, C#, jQuery, React, Angular, PHP, and other programming languages.
• Experience with MS SQL Server and familiarity with front-end languages such as HTML5, XML, JavaScript, JSON, and CSS.
• Proficiency in Version Control (Git).
• Familiarity with UI/UX concepts and/or Microsoft Azure is a plus.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a propensity to listen and approach new ideas and challenges with an open mind.
• Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and precision.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and correct software defects.
• Ability to work collaboratively and manage a team of software developers to ensure project success and career growth.
• Knowledge of Windows and Linux environments, distributed systems, and the TCP/IP network stack.
• Comprehension to understand algorithms and develop solutions based on business objectives.
