🎯 Get Paid for your Side Projects - Cohort 4
The Software Engineering Quest
Datacurve (YC W24) is building Shipd - a platform that pays cracked developers to take part in coding challenges - and we'll soon be launching version 2.0 of our Software Engineering Quest 🥳
- We're pushing software engineering capabilities of AI by partnering with one of the leading AI labs for this quest
- The quest is now accepting submissions of up to 100 private Python repos
In this quest you'll get to:
1. Get paid for your side projects (instead of letting them sitting there!)
2. Use your repo to push the capabilities of leading AI models
3. Have exclusive access to join the fun in creating/solving Python challenges on all of the other repos we're gathering
All you need is your repo + some basic info and we'll aim to get back to you within 24 hours --> if your project is chosen, we'll evaluate how much we'd pay you for it ($200 - $500 💸)
About the company: Shipd is an invite-only platform for developers where you're paid to create/solve coding problems that are used to train AI! It is created by Datacurve, a YC-backed startup based on San Francisco, California. Datacurve works with the world's leading AI labs to push their models' programming capabilities using your contributions 🔥
Shipd has paid out over $720K USD to coders in the past few months. We can't wait to have you on board! Part #1 - Basic Info (~2min)
First let us know some basic info about you:
Part #2 - Your Project (~3min)
Submit your private Python repo
*
We're looking for unique/interesting Python projects that have:
1. 20-40 hours of active development put into it (We expect this to be at least ~2,500 written lines of code i.e. not generated by frameworks/boilerplate code)
2. Private repos (that have never been public)
Important note - if your repo is chosen and you decide to accept payment for it, you must be willing to transfer the repo to us for use of producing premium AI training data
✅ Examples of projects that exceed requirements: ✅
Note - these examples are all public GitHub repositories to demonstrate to you the size and scope of what we’re expecting, but your projects should be 100% private throughout its entire lifespan.
-
Small Project Ex. 1: TinyDB - A lightweight, document-oriented database that stores and queries JSON data with a simple Python API
-
Small Project Ex. 2: Tabulate - A single-file utility that transforms lists and other tabular data into formatted plaintext (or HTML/markdown) tables that’s good for display/logging
-
Large Project Ex. 1: Attrs - A package that minimizes boilerplate in Python class definitions by auto-generating methods (like init and repr) based on the class’ declared attributes
-
Large Project Ex 2: Click - A library for helping build CLIs by abstracting command parsing and output formatting with a declarative syntax
❌ Examples of unacceptable projects ❌
- Projects created as a part of a college/online course, tutorial, or blog. These are unoriginal and do not pass the uniqueness bar
- Simple CRUD applications. These will not be accepted if they do not contain architectural/software design practices or incorporate interesting technologies that extend upon the complexity meaningfully. An XYZ Management System project way too overdone and will not be accepted unless it contains additional complexity!
- ML/Data science projects. At the moment, we are not accepting these. These include Jupyter notebooks, and ML algorithms wrapped behind a minimal frontend wrapper. Incorporating ML as one functionality or component of a larger library, SDK, service, app etc. are acceptable
- Largely AI-written code. Using LLMs to assist with development is obviously ok, but submitting low-quality code that is primarily written by LLMs is not.
Upload your repo here (.zip files only):
