Would you use a simple accounting software for bookkeeping?

Seeking feedback on simple accounting software for sole traders: cloud vs desktop, features, pricing

I recently read Paul Meisner's Technology isn’t delivering for accountants, "Technology isn’t delivering for accountants", and it resonated with me deeply. As a former Chartered Accountant who owned an accounting practice, I now run a software development business that provides both desktop and cloud solutions for a niche market in Australia.

Last month, a friend of mine, who is an accountant, asked if I could develop a simple accounting software for her sole trader practice. The desktop software she currently uses is being phased out by its vendor in favor of a more expensive cloud-based version.

Initially, I was unsure if there was a market for a simpler software solution. However, after reading the comments on Paul's article, I see a clear demand for such a product.

Paul highlighted that software vendors often fail to ask users what they need. This feedback is crucial, so I am reaching out to understand if you would use a simpler software tailored specifically for you (sole trader/micro accounting practices).

I have a few specific questions and would greatly appreciate your input. As a thank you, all respondents will receive a significant discount when the software launches.

Once I gather responses, I will set up a delivery plan with milestones for you to track. My goal is to avoid adding too many features that could bloat the software, increase support costs, or complicate it for sole trader/micro accounting practices.

Thank you in advance for filling this quick short survey (7 Multiple choices and 5 optional text questions). It should take around 5 minutes to finish.

Kind regards
Michael
