I tell myself it's not my business what happens on his time. And then I shove down the worry.

I overcompensate when they come back - extra patient, extra present - like I'm making up for something.

I feel a quiet grief that this is their normal now. Two homes. Two lives. Not what I pictured.

Talk yourself out of it halfway through. Maybe you're overreacting. Maybe it's not worth the fight.

Feel the sting of how transactional things have become. This isn't how it was supposed to be.
