Thank you for your interest in joining Stories of Immigrants. Our members play a crucial role in shaping our storytelling and advocacy efforts to support immigrant communities through active participation in our Ally Network. This short form helps us get to know you before you join. Screening every applicant is how we keep the Ally Network a safe, trustworthy space for the immigrants and families we serve.
Overview of network roles:
• Neighbor: Come, listen, and stay informed. Attend our monthly gathering, hear firsthand immigrant stories, and learn what is actually happening — with no expectation beyond showing up. Many Neighbors also share what they learn with the people around them, which is its own form of advocacy.
• Organizer: Take part in advocacy where decisions are made. Build a relationship with your local or congressional office, bring immigrant stories to your representatives, and, if you wish, convene others in your area.
• Volunteer: Connect directly with immigrants and families, often starting virtually before moving in person. Team up with organizations we know and trust — rapid response networks, legal aid, English language programs, and others — depending on where you live.
• Spots are limited for the Organizer role.
• We are actively building out our Volunteer role and currently maintain a waitlist due to strong interest. We would love to add your name and will reach out as soon as space opens.
• Depending on which role you choose, you may be connected with a point person to help guide and check-in with you.
General Expectations for our members:
✅ Commitment to the Mission – Members should align with Stories of Immigrants’ vision to amplify immigrant voices, challenge harmful narratives, and advocate for change.
✅ Time Commitment – We ask for a minimum time commitment of one hour per month for the Neighbor role, three hours per month for the Organizer, and five hours per month for the Volunteer role (for a minimum of three months), with the flexibility to increase your involvement over time. Members may be asked to provide input via email or short discussions as needed.
✅ Active Participation – We ask that members attend virtual meetings and contribute to discussions. All members are considered "Neighbors", so we ask that you at the very least attend events and sessions, even if you choose a deeper level of involvement, with more volunteer opportunities available as you grow with us.
✅ Confidentiality & Sensitivity – Given the nature of immigrant stories, members must maintain strict confidentiality regarding any personal information shared and handle discussions with care and respect.
✅ Collaboration & Support – Members should be willing to work collaboratively, support fellow members, and contribute ideas to enhance our impact.
