Multi-Skilled Fire & Security Engineer

Vehicle: Company van or car provided for business use
Experience: Minimum five years in the fire and security industry
We're Not Just Recruiting an Engineer. We're Looking for a Future Leader.

About the role

Essential Group is looking for an ambitious, technically capable engineer who wants more than a run of service calls. If you’re the person colleagues turn to when a fault can’t be resolved, and your current employer isn’t offering the variety, responsibility or progression you deserve, we’d like to hear from you.

You’ll design, install, commission, maintain and troubleshoot fire, security, access and communication systems across domestic and residential properties, high-net-worth homes and rural estates, schools, West End retail and commercial offices. One day might be an ARC signalling fault in an Essex home. The next could be integrating gates, intruder alarms, IP CCTV and wireless links across a private estate.

What we’re looking for

You’ll be confident across a broad range of systems, not tied to one manufacturer:

Intruder and signalling (essential): Texecom, Orisec, Eaton/Scantronic, Pyronix, Honeywell Galaxy, plus ARC signalling, dual-path communication and remote diagnostics

IP CCTV: Hikvision and other leading brands, NVRs, PoE and remote viewing, plus legacy analogue systems

Access control and door entry: Paxton Net2 and Paxton10, video intercoms, locks and gate integration

Fire detection: Kentec, C-TEC, Infinity and Advanced, with Gent or other closed-protocol experience a plus

Advantageous: gate automation, Ubiquiti networking, Starlink, and a good grasp of IP networking and cloud platforms

You should understand why a fault is happening, not just swap equipment until it clears. We don’t expect expertise in everything, but we do expect strong core competence and enthusiasm to learn.

What we offer

- £40,000-£60,000 basic salary

- Premium overtime at 2x, 3x and up to 4x pay

- £300 per on-call week (1-in-5 rota), with door-to-door pay for call-out attendance. Much out-of-hours support is handled remotely through cloud platforms

- Company van or car

- Varied, technically interesting projects

- A route into senior engineer, technical manager, operations manager or director roles. Promotion isn’t automatic, but we actively reward talent, leadership and commercial awareness

Coverage: Mainly London, Essex and the Home Counties (about 70% South-West Essex, East London and North London), with occasional travel further afield roughly once a quarter.
