Since 1 July 2026, wine from independent small producers is taxed at a reduced rate in Sweden – between 10% and 50% below the full rate, depending on annual production. It comes from the EU framework for small producers (Article 23a of Directive 92/83/EEC) and applies to producers anywhere in the EU.
We think it's a welcome change: most of the growers we work with are small, independent, and doing the work by hand, which is exactly what the rules are meant to recognise.
Since we pay the excise duty when the wine is released in Sweden, it's on us to apply the correct rate – which means we need a little information from each of you.
