Submit Your Dance Floor Story to be Featured in Our Gallery

The dance floor has always been more than a place to dance.

It's where communities have found each other, where bodies have found confidence and liberation, and where the distance between people quietly dissolves. It's also where many of us have felt most exposed, most aware of what we carry, and what we're afraid to put down.

Between Beats is a community archive exploring the power of music and movement to shape how we feel in our bodies, with each other, and in the world. Submissions will be displayed at a live gathering and exhibit on July 11th at The Faight Collective (473A Haight St, San Francisco) from 6–11pm, as part of the Future of Us Festival, followed by a panel conversation and dance party.

This form has two parts: a photo, video, song, or artifact from a dance floor moment that meant something to you, and written reflections on a few questions we'll ask along the way.

We're looking for what lives between the beats — the joyful, the complicated, the liberating, the unresolved. Whatever the dance floor has meant to you, we want to hear it. Together, we'll use these stories to imagine the future of dance spaces.

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Final submissions due by Friday, June 19th, 2026.
