We invite you to take part in the Donne e mare initiative of the Association of Mediterranean Maritime Museums by sharing a story about women connected to the sea in your community.
Along the Mediterranean coast, women have always been present — sometimes at the forefront, more often in the background — shaping everyday life connected to the sea. Their work, knowledge and experiences have supported fishing communities, sustained households, and contributed to the continuity of maritime practices across generations.
With this call, we wish to gather small, precise and meaningful stories that reflect these roles in their local context, both from the past and from contemporary experiences of women connected to the sea. The initiative seeks to bring forward these perspectives through short, grounded narratives that reflect local particularities, experiences and memories. Rather than formal or academic texts, we are interested in simple, authentic stories from your community.
The collected materials will contribute to future shared initiatives within the Association of Mediterranean Maritime Museums (AMMM) network, including exhibitions, publications and digital storytelling.
