🚀 BE PART OF OUR SPECIAL TIME CAPSULE TO MARK 50 YEARS OF THE VOYAGER MISSION & ITS GOLDEN RECORD!
THE STORY OF THE GOLDEN RECORD
In 1977, a small team working on NASA’s Voyager mission had to decide what sounds, music and images to send to space to represent our planet. If the Voyager crafts were ever found by extraterrestrials in the distant interstellar future, they might learn something about earth and its inhabitants from this collection of images and sounds.
Carl Sagan and his team thus created the famous Golden Record. It contained 116 images, 27 pieces of music, greetings in 55 languages and 19 mins of the natural sounds of earth. And off the Golden Record was sent on its interstellar journey which it continues today.

🫵 Now, we want to hear and see what you would send!
Our world has changed quite a bit since 1977! What sounds, messages or imagery would you chose to represent our planet and our civilisation today? Think as locally, globally, creatively or scientifically as you want!
📝🎵🖼️ Tell us briefly what you think or upload a file below.
It could be a piece of music or the name of a song that you love (or that you've composed), a photo, a drawing, a message of some sort......anything you think represents you, us or the world. ( or that an extraterrestrial might find interesting! 👽 )
WHEN WILL WE SEE THE TIME CAPSULE?
On August 20th, 2027, the exact 50th anniversary of the first Voyager launch, we will reveal the contents of this new Golden Record to see what you and all your fellow earthlings have helped to create!
You will receive a link to a preview of our time capsule
HOW TO I SUBMIT?
Just tell us what you think below in the message box- the name of the piece of music. Or you can upload something.
🔟 For uploads, the file size limit is 10 MB so you may need to compress photos or music. ( please don't include links to private cloud storage, e.g. Google drive, Dropbox etc.. YouTube, Vimeo, Spotify links are fine! 😆)
SCHOOLS:
If not suitable for students to submit to this portal themselves, a teacher can upload the individual ideas separately OR you can put all of a student group's ideas on one document and upload that.
📢 Please get in touch with us on the below form if you would like a member of Elevation Ensemble to provide a short online introduction to the Golden Record and this What Would You Send campaign.
